Demister pads are a type of mesh pad used for removing water and oil droplets suspended in air or other gases. They offer an efficient solution for efficiently trapping, separating, or coalescing gas or liquid particles from process streams. The material selected depends on the application.

Wire mesh demisters are utilized for separating liquids and vapours in petrochemical, oil and gas processing, waste treatment, power generation, and pharmaceutical process plants, among other industries. They are made from woven or knitted wire mesh and serve as coalescing filters to separate not only liquid and gas mixtures, but also solid-liquid and solid-gas mixtures.

The surface treatment of the wire mesh demister depends on the application, with some treated with corrosion inhibitors, solvents, or oils. Installation of the demister can be done either directly in the vessel or externally using frames or baskets.

The main differences between stainless steel, monel, copper, and galvanized wire mesh demisters are their mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, weight, and cost.

Stainless steel is the most common material used for demisters due to its high durability and resistance to corrosion. Monel is also highly corrosion resistant and is able to withstand extreme temperatures and pressures. Copper is lighter and more conductive than both stainless and Monel, making it ideal for electrical applications. Galvanized materials are much cheaper than the other three and offer good corrosion resistance, however they lack the same level of strength and durability.
